11th Grade US History
The format for the US History
Program is based on the idea that students need to be able to access
information in a variety of ways. In addition, students should be able to
have the ability to demonstrate their learning in multiple fashions. To
further develop both of the above principles, the US History course will be
taught with a family concept for the 11th Grade English course. Reading and
writing assignments in English will coincide with the time periods of
History being studied here.
The curriculum for US History
has been divided up by Learning Period. Each Learning Period has 4 Sections
included in it. Each Section has a specific topic to be studied. Each
section is composed of 4 important parts:
1. "Must Have's"
2. "Background Information"
3. "Reading Selections"
4. "Activities / Assignments"
The "Must Have's"
are the essential content vocabulary for each section. Almost every "Must
Have" is linked to another web-page that helps to explain it. Each link
should be followed and read to fully get the benefit of an on-line learning
experience. These will become part of your "Activity / Assignment" for each
section. You will define and thoroughly explain each "Must Have" in your
own words.
The "Background
Information" serves as the Lecture aspect of
each lesson. The "Background Information" provides a lot of important
information and lays a strong base for the lesson. Each "Background
Information" aspect contains pictures, cartoons, video clips and such to
provide a similar experience of being in a classroom lecture.
The "Reading Selections"
serve as the textbook for the course.
Different reading selections are linked out to provide reinforcement of the
"Background Information" and to further student exposure to material
relevant to the lesson. It is essential that each reading selection be
carefully read!
The final part of each
section is the "Activities / Assignments"
aspect for each section. At the bottom of the page for each section is a
link for the "Activities / Assignments." Click on the links to open each
file. Each file has been uploaded as a WORD document. You may type
directly into the WORD document. There is a place for your name and your
Consultant's name. When you complete each "Activity / Assignment" it may be
printed out and turned as directed by your English teacher.
